Peer review policy
Peer Review Policy – Cuadernos Unimetanos
The peer review process for articles submitted to Cuadernos Unimetanos follows structured phases to ensure the quality and relevance of the publications.
1. Initial Assessment
The Editorial Committee conducts an initial review to verify that the manuscript meets the criteria of clarity, relevance, and adherence to the journal’s editorial guidelines. Failure to comply with the requirements outlined in the "Submission Checklist" will result in automatic rejection. In such cases, authors will be notified within 15 business days.
If the manuscript has minor structural or formatting issues, the editor will provide suggestions for correction before sending it for external review. Authors will have a maximum of 10 days to resubmit the revised manuscript. The editor reserves the right to make basic formal adjustments that do not alter the content to expedite the editorial process.
2. Peer Review Process
Once approved in the initial assessment, the manuscript is assigned to two or more external expert reviewers who evaluate it confidentially and anonymously under a double-blind system. Reviewers use the online evaluation form designed for research articles.
The average review period is 30 to 60 days. The editor will send the authors the reviewers’ reports, along with any recommendations for revision or, if applicable, the decision to reject the manuscript. Authors will have 10 days to submit the revised manuscript, including a justification for the changes made or an explanation of discrepancies with the reviewers’ comments.
If there are contradictions between reviewers’ opinions or if the editor finds a reviewer’s justification insufficient, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer.
Reviewer Selection Criteria
Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise and specialization in the manuscript’s subject area, ensuring an informed evaluation. Additionally, reviewers must be independent of the author’s institution and the journal’s editorial committees.
The journal maintains an internal database to manage article assignments and track reviewer activity. At the end of each year, a list of reviewers who participated during that period is published.
Editorial Decision
The criteria for accepting or rejecting a manuscript include:
- Originality of the content.
- Methodological rigor and robustness.
- Quality and coherence of the results and conclusions with the stated objectives.
- Clarity and accuracy of the language used.
- Compliance with the journal’s editorial standards.
- Adherence to ethical standards for scientific research.
- Relevance and timeliness of the references cited.
Upon completing the review process, the corresponding author will be notified of the manuscript's acceptance or rejection. In case of rejection, the evaluation reports will be shared. Authors may express their agreement or disagreement with the decision and raise any concerns or questions, which will be addressed within a maximum of 15 days.
